1 Short title and commencement

Section 1(1)

This Act may be called the Personal Data Protection Act, 2019.

Section 1(2)

It shall come into force on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint; and different dates may be appointed for different provisions of this Act and any reference in any such provision to the commencement of this Act shall be construed as a reference to the coming into force of that provision.

Explanation

The provisions of this act will come into effect on the date notified by Central Government. Since the personal data protection is still a bill, no date has been notified by central government.

In general parlance the Personal Data Protection Act, 2019 is also called as "PDP Act".
